OPTIMUM Care
St. Mary's Hospital is sensitive to the needs of patients who require ongoing medical care but are not home-bound. To satisfy the healthcare requirements for these individuals, St. Mary's Hospital offers an outpatient treatment center, called OPTIMUM (Outpatient Treatment Infusion Management Under Medical Care).

The OPTIMUM center offers a wide range of procedures that are not readily available at a doctor's office and do not require the urgency of the emergency department. Services offered by the center include:

• Long-term antibiotic therapy

• Blood transfusions

• Wound care/dressing changes

• Catheter changes and removal

• Enemas and colostomy changes

• Tracheostomy changes

• Central line care

• Allergy shots

• Prescription drug monitoring

• Medical injections

• IV therapy

• Epidural cassettes/CAD pumps

• Splint pick-ups

The Optimum Care Center is open all year, 7 days a week by prescheduled appointment, so you can schedule a visit when it's most convenient for you. The Optimum Care Center can shorten the length of your hospitalization or even promote your return to health to avoid being hospitalized at all.

EMERGENCY Care
Your needs in an emergency are immediate. NIMCH is equipped to help you in those all-important situations with 24-hour service provided by a highly trained staff. Our Emergency Department is staffed around the clock. Our outstanding emergency staff of Registered Nurses are not only Trauma Nurse Specialists, but they are also certified in Pediatric Advanced Life Support and Advanced Cardiac Life Support.

Because of the competence of our skilled staff, NIMCH Emergency Department has been recognized by the Illinois Department of Public Health for advanced training in child emergency care. The Department also is certified by the State of Illinois as an Emergency Department Approved for Pediatrics.

In 2003, NIMCH opened a new Emergency facility. The new ER addition allows us to meet today's growing demand for emergency room services. The 7,200 square-foot addition features eight treatment and exam rooms, an expanded patient waiting area, a private waiting room, an ambulance staff room and a decontamination room. A centralized nurses' station allows nurses to monitor patients more easily. The new ER allows for easier access with the creation of two separate entrances to accommodate ambulances and walk-in patients, as well as covered patient drop-off areas and sidewalks.


Our helipad assures you of immediate assistance in the most critical situations which require transport to another hospital. The raised helipad on the roof of the new addition allows helicopters to transport patients without impeding ambulance traffic.
